How GreatIfe Alumni collects, uses, and protects your personal information across the platform.
Last updated: September 2026GreatIfe Alumni ("we", "us", "our") operates this platform to connect graduates of the University of Ife / Obafemi Awolowo University worldwide through chapters, elections, dues, mentorship, job listings, messaging, and giving. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit greatife.org or use the member platform, why we collect it, how it's used and shared, and the choices and rights you have over it.
By registering for an account or otherwise using the platform, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you don't agree, please don't submit personal information to us beyond what's needed to browse the public site.
Where the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA/NDPR) or a similar law elsewhere applies to you, we rely on one or more of the following bases for each use above: your consent (e.g. newsletter sign-up), the performance of a contract with you (e.g. maintaining your membership account, processing a payment you initiated), our legitimate interests (e.g. keeping the platform secure, running elections fairly), and legal obligation (e.g. retaining donation records for tax purposes).
Voting matters enough on this platform to call out separately. We record that an eligible member cast a ballot in a given election, to prevent duplicate voting and to support a verifiable count. Individual candidate selections are not published or shown to committee members, chapter admins, or anyone else alongside your name — only aggregated vote totals per candidate are published as results. Election administrators can see who voted and who has not, purely to track turnout, but not who they voted for.
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Financial records (dues payments, donations) are retained for as long as required by applicable tax and accounting rules, typically several years after the transaction. Election ballots are retained in aggregate for the historical record of results; if you delete your account, your individual voting-eligibility record is anonymized rather than deleted outright, so historical turnout figures remain accurate. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll remove or anonymize personal data that we're not legally required to keep.

We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information: passwords are stored using one-way hashing (never in plain text), payment card details never touch our servers directly, and access to administrative tools is role-restricted so that, for example, a chapter admin cannot reach another chapter's member records. No system is completely immune to risk, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep this platform trustworthy with the data you share with it.
This platform is intended for alumni of the University of Ife / Obafemi Awolowo University and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Our alumni community spans many countries. Because of that, your information may be processed on servers, or by payment/email providers, located outside your own country, including in Nigeria where the association is based. Where required, we take steps to ensure such transfers are protected to a standard consistent with applicable data protection law.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the platform evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify members by email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the platform after a change means you accept the updated policy.
